Spring Beauty Essentials | 2016

HEY GUYS happy Thursday!! Guess what? It's almost March, which means February is almost over which means it's almost Spring! OMG. Can you tell I'm just a lil bit excited? Spring is by far, hands down my favorite season. There's just something so magical about everything coming back to life after a long winter (have you ever known a short winter? because I definitely have not) and to me it's like heaven hearing birds chirping and seeing flowers in bloom.

So with the new season obviously ya gotta have some new beauty essentials, because that's just the way it works right? I have compiled a little list of my spring beauty essentials to maybe inspire anyone out there who... needs inspiration for this? Not sure if anyone actually does need inspiring but I thought I'd do it all the same hehe!

To me, spring means ushering in a whole new color palette into your life, and as you can probably see, my ideal spring palette consists of pink and pink and pink! The YesTo Grapefruit Spray is my favorite day time moisturizer for the spring, because it just gives your skin the healthiest sheen, but it's so light so it's ideal for when those temperatures start warming up (aka go above 50 degrees basically).

I feel like lip color is where I usually do the most drastic changing with the seasons, as I tend to go away from the brown and plum tones of winter, and start going for much lighter shades instead. Here I've got my Clinique Chubby Stick in Curvy Candy, my little Tarte LipSurgence in Dainty, L'Oréal Colour Riche lipsticks in 175 I Pink You're Cute and 254 Everbloom, and for a moisturizer this Savannah Bee Natural Beeswax Lip Balm in Wild Blackberry. All of these colors are very bright and punchy, and I feel like they sort of brighten up my whole vibe a lil bit!

As far as eyes and face go, I like things that again feature more pinky, rosy, and golden tones. The products I usually reach for are this Maybelline Color Tattoo in Inked in Pink, this Clinique Cheek Pop Blush in Plum Pop (this gets extra spring points cuz it's shaped like a lil flower), Rimmel's Match Perfection Foundation, my Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara, and my Naked3 palette.

And last but not least, for a lil spritz of flirty spring fragrance, I think the Clinique Happy Perfume is absolute perfection (Chandler Bing moment lol).  I've got a little mini bottle here which is absolutely the most precious thing I own and I'm so obsessed with it y'all don't even know.

So I know it's only just the end of February, and by most normal people's standards spring is still a long way off, but can you blame a girl for hoping? Besides I have this theory that if we all ignore that it's still cold out the cold will go away... haha just kidding, I'm not that desperate for spring... maybe...

Room Tour! | February 2016

Sooo I thought I'd do something a lil bit different for my blog, and show y'all my room! Honestly, my room, as you can see, is not one of those super cool aesthetic rooms you see on like Pinterest or whatever, but I feel quite proud of it nonetheless! It's filled with a collection of things that make me happy, which I feel like is what bedrooms should be all about! I'm actually one of those people who likes to move around rooms quite a bit and see how things feel in new arrangements, so probably this layout will change by summer, but for now I am quite pleased with it!

As you can see above, I have a mostly white/pink/green color scheme going on, which I looove! Honestly I thought white walls were gonna make my room look like an asylum, but they make my tiny room feel so much bigger and more peaceful.  The only thing I feel like I need to finish off my room is something to hang above my bed, as it looks quite bare at the moment. I'm thinking about stringing up some Christmas lights and a bunch of pictures of me and my friends and family to sort of make a little collage thing.

I think my favorite little part of my room would have to be my bookshelf, as weird as that is, but I just love the collection of books I have on it and the little display on the top part of it. I also love my magazines and comic books down below in the little baskets (I collect comics haha I'm a nerd I know).

I hope y'all liked looking at my room, I'm really happy with the way it's arranged at the moment and wanted to share that with the world haha! I hope y'all have a great rest of the day and an overall great week!!

Travel Diary | Saturday in Charleston + Being on TV!!

Happy Mondayyy y'all. I woke up this morning with a headache, which is so very Monday of me to say, also it's a grey little day in Asheville today which adds to the Monday aesthetic, you know? The Garfield strip in the paper today (yes, I read the comics everyday, it's good for my brain OK) showed Garfield taking a nap saying "Nothing can stop me today... Nothing can start me either" which is like my life motto. Besides a slow start to my day, the rest of my day has been quite nice, and I thought I'd share with y'all some bits from my weekend in Charleston, because A) Charleston is amaZiNg and B) I was on national TV no big deal or whatever lol.

7:37 am Started off the day SO early for a Saturday, as we woke up at 5:30 to get to the taping of Morning Joe, which is a talk show on MSNBC that my mom loves and she wanted to see them while they were in Charleston for the primaries. So we got there around 6:15 and waited till 7 when they let us in, and turns out the production manager put us in a booth right behind some of the anchors which was like the best thing ever nbd. Also they had these fancy lights on us which is basically Kardashian selfie lighting so my Snapchat was really on point during this time in my life.

10:11 am No one ever tells you that being on TV is so tiring, like ya gotta sit there and pretend to be interested in something for two hours when all you're really interested in is why the cup of coffee you're drinking was 5 dollars (what is the world coming to//I literally sound like a gramma).  So needless to say, after the show ended we headed to a little brunch place and recovered from our brief stint of fame.

10:58 am After brunch we went shopping on King Street which was great and very classy or whatever because we went into an antique store and I didn't actually feel like I was being murdered by a history textbook so that was great!!
7:47 pm After classy-shopping-hour we all went and literally did nothing at the apartment all afternoon, which was amazing because, like I said, being on TV ain't easy kids. So around this time we went out for a late dinner which was So GoOd and then we got some pretty flowers, as one does.

8:11 pm The day ended with popcorn (as you can see) and movies and chilling out on the deck and just living that chill Charleston life.

So that was my amazing Saturday in Charleston where I was on TV and ate popcorn and went antiquing all in one day which is a success in my book, am I right?

Look for Less | Taylor Swift at the 2016 Grammys

SO in case you missed it Taylor Swift won the Grammys this year.  I feel like this is a controversial statement to some people but I mean... she did y'all.  It's Taylor's world, we're just living in it (sometimes I like to pretend me and Taylor are on first name basis ok no judgement).  First of all, her outfit? Omg? Be right back just trying to figure out how to incorporate an orange bandeau top and a flowing magenta skirt into my school wardrobe.  Also, her hair is like next level amazing, which is kind of concerning for me because last time Taylor got a haircut, I decided my hair would look equally amazing short and went right off to get myself a lob (long bob, duhh). Needless to say I ended up looking more like my King Charles Cavalier Spaniel and less like T. Swizzle *sigh.* Besides the stellar hair, makeup, and power stance Taylor had going on on Monday night, her makeup was also out of this world flawless as always, so I thought I'd do a nifty lil look for less just for kicks:

1 Apply Rimmel's Match Perfection all over your face, either with a beauty blender, or a brush, or even your hands if your that kinda kid!!

2 Apply the Maybelline Age Rewind concealer to any problem spots and to your under eye area, because even though the bags under our eyes are designer, it can't hurt to brighten em up a lil bit.

3 Use the Rimmel Stay Matte powder anywhere you put concealer.  Don't use this all over your face unless you have super oily skin because Taylor's look is just a little bit dewy.

4 Just using the contour side of the Nyx Wonder Stick, do a little bit of contour through the hollows of the cheeks, the temples, hairline, and maybe the nose if you're feeling extra fancy.  Taylor's look isn't super bronzy though, so I didn't feel the need to add any bronzer to this look, because simplicity is best right? But if you do want to go in with bronzer, this is your time to do so!

5 Next apply the Physician's formula blush to your cheeks, and blend upwards toward your ear area. Taylor used a really pretty and feminine pink blush which makes you look extra awake and flawless.

6 To finish off the face, apply the Becca Skin Perfecter in Moonstone on the cheekbones, cupids bow, and anywhere else you want, there are no rules in the highlight game!!

7 For eyes, I chose the Naked3 palette because Taylors got a very pink look going on, but it's still pretty neutral.  Sweep the shade Strange all over the lid for your base, as well as under the brow for a highlight.  Then take Dust with your finger (for better color payout) and apply that generously to your whole lid, be careful though, this shade has lots of fallout! Then take the shade Limit with a fluffy brush and blend out your crease, making sure Dust and Limit are blended well together.  And then lastly take the shade Liar and run it all the way underneath the lower lash line, and that's your eyeshadow done!

8 For brows just fill them in to your taste with the Maybelline brow stick, this is really pretty good and a nice dupe for the Anastasia one!

9 Maybelline's Lash Sensational mascara is perf for getting Taylor's big fluttery lashes. I would apply two coats to your top and bottom lashes for that extra pop diva effect.

10 And finally, for the big finish, the pièce de résistance, the Maybelline lipstick in Craving Coral to get that glam bright lipstick that Taylor has on.  Some people have been calling this a red lip look, but can we all just clear this up and say that it is for sure orange? Or am I colorblind? Please someone tell me if I am colorblind, I've always secretly wondered.

So that's the look my friends! I can't guarantee that wearing this will turn you into a glamazon like Taylor on the spot, but I mean it's worth a shot right? Anyways, I'm off to spend the afternoon procrastinating writing two essays and studying for a test, #studious #A+. Peace out!!

What's in My Travel Makeup Bag

Hello everybody and happy Thursday!  As you're reading this I'm sitting in sunny Cancun, as I am taking a 5 day vacation there and am very very excited to do so!  In honor of my vacation, I thought I would show you all what I brought with me in my travel makeup bag.  The makeup bag I use when I travel is a Kate Spade one that is a few years old, so sadly I don't think it can be purchased today, but Kate Spade do amazing cosmetic cases, so for sure look at those!

Now, I have quite a large amount of items in my bag, and most of them are products that I feel like I mention every single post just about, so I thought I would just highlight the newer items or the ones I maybe don't mention as much, just so we aren't here for 50000 million years!

1 // Elf Contour Palette

This is a fairly new purchase for me, and I honestly have been loving it so much.  I wasn't expecting to be able to use all of the shades, but they are all very wearable and actually pretty good quality for 6 (!!!) dollars.  I thought this would be nice as its very compact and it has a highlight, setting powder, and contour shade all in one!  Handy-dandy, no?

Of course I had to bring this because, umm it's gorgeous and amazing and something about it just seems like all of the shades would look really good with a tan... If I get a tan that is... maybe they'll look good with a sunburn too though?

I bought this today (Monday, I'm prewriting this hehe) so I have no idea whether or not this is good or not, but I needed a bronzer so I just thought I'd pop this in my cart at CVS today.  Also, on the website, the color Ticket to Brazil looks straight up chocolate brown, but I promise you that this is what it actually looks like in real life lol.

This is another item I bought today and have not tried yet, so will keep you posted on whether or not it's any good, although I did try it on the back of my hand and it seemed really nice, sooo there's that! I basically needed a light BB cream and I wanted to try something new, so I thought this looked promising, so here we are!

This is my last brand new purchase, but I bought this because I heard a ton of amazing things about it online, and I really liked the color so I thought I'd give it a go.  I'll keep y'all posted on whether or not I like it, but it seems promising!

I've written about this on the blog before, but seriously y'all these eyeshadows are the, literally they make me so happy every time I wear them.  I thought that the gold shade and the pinky-gold shade would be really pretty with a lil tan so that's my plan!

Essential, and kinda boring I suppose, but I thought I'd feature these anyway because why not?

And last but not least, mascara! I actually used to hate this when I first got it, and I wrote a whole negative review about it, but once I stopped using it for a month then came back to it, I think it dried a little and I liked it much more.  Still not my absolute favorite mascara, but all in all, it works pretty well so I thought it was worthy enough to make the trip!

And that's all folks!  I brought a few other things, but these were the highlight items!  I hope y'all have a wonderful day and a great weekend, and I hope y'all enjoyed this post!!

Valentines Day 2016 Shopping Inspiration

Well y'all, it's almost Valentines Day, and we all know what that means... I get to wear more pink than I already do!  Oh and also I get to eat chocolate all day, which is basically what I do every holiday but I mean what's a holiday without chocolate, right?  Honestly the main reason I love Valentines Day is because of the color scheme... is that sad?  I don't know, but who doesn't love pink and red together?  So, in honor of this honorable holiday, I've been doing a little online browsing (what else is new?) and I found some things to add even more cuteness into your February 14th! Hope y'all enjoy, and hope y'all have an amazing day full of pink and hearts and red and chocolate and all things happy!

How I Stay Organized | Organization Tips for Students

Happy Friday-Eve y'all!  Today I thought I would write about how I stay organized for school/basically how I use my planners.  I'm not sure if this is even interesting, but since I'm kind of a nerd about organization, I thought it would be fun to do!  I use two main planners, this one that I keep in my backpack and write dates and homework in, and this Holly Holladay Designs one that I just write dates in and keep on my desk so I can always see it.

In the planner, I use every single page. On the notes pages before every month spread, I write basically any and all important things to remember, like in February's pages I wrote down my packing list for my upcoming trip to Mexico. Then in the month spread, I write classes, youth groups, babysitting jobs, birthdays, parties, etc etc.  And lastly, in the individual days pages, I write down assignments on the days that they are due, if I don't do this honestly I would lose track of 70% of my assignments, it's such a lifesaver!

For my Holly Holladay planner, I just use the monthly spread, which I fill with all of the dates I need to remember each month, and I keep this lying open on my desk pretty much 24/7. I like doing this because it's so helpful to be able to glance quickly at the day and see if I have anything out of the usual, because most of the time I forget appointments and meetings if I don't see it written down!

And that's about it!  This system works really well for me, although I know it may look a little silly to have two planners, trust me it's so so helpful, especially when you have 10000 due dates and assignments swirling around, I find actually writing them down helps me so much.  I hope y'all found this at least a little bit helpful, and I hope y'all are having a wonderful day today!

January 2016 Favorites | Sticky notes, Contouring, and More...

Good morning and happy February y'all!  It's so weird that it's now the second month of 2016... honestly confused about why we don't have flying cars yet, but whatever *sigh.*  Anyway, apart from my sadness over the lack of flying cars, January was a pretty good month, full of trying to stop eating Christmas candy and trying to start working out again, #thestruggle.  Throughout these trials, these are a few of the products that I loved loved loved throughout the month!

This sticky note set just made me so happy this month.  Seriously, isn't this just the cutest thing ever?  I feel like my desk is just 100x brighter/trendier/cooler with this lil set on it, and also my notes look cooler too, sooo basically these sticky notes make me a cool kid, right?

Sooo, I think this was in my December favorites too... #awkward.  BUT, I wanted to feature it again because I've still been loving it and I've started using all of the shades in new ways that have been totally totally amazing.  The peach eyeshadow shade is seriously so gorgeous, especially with a brown eyeliner!  I'm going to Mexico in a week, and I will for sure take this with me because it just has everything you could need right there, plus a ginormous mirror (as evidenced above, it's big enough to take selfies in y'all!).

This lipstick from Clinique, which is sadly no longer available (similar here, twilight nude), is what I have been wearing basically every single day.  It looks super brown in the tube, but it comes off on the lips looking very subtle and rosy, and is really moisturizing, so I've just been absolutely loving this!

This palette is one I have been reaching for 5/7 days of the week this month.  It has amazing matte shades, which is amazing because usually if I'm going to wear eyeshadow to school, it will probably be matte, just because its simple and quick to do.  These are also really pigmented eyeshadows, which is always a plus!

E.l.f.'s Contour palette is a pretty new purchase, but honestly I was sold right by the first use.  The powders are really nice and smooth, and all of the colors just work really well.  Usually I'll use the yellow-y shade for under my eyes, to set the concealer, then I'll use the dark brown shade for contouring and the lighter brown for bronzing, then I'll dust the highlight shade on my cheekbones, and all in all, it just gives the most amazing effect!

This facial oil by Andalou Naturals is honestly sunshine in a bottle.  If you're thinking I'm a crazy person for putting straight oil on my skin, especially in the middle of a breakout, I've been there too, but hear me out!  I was super skeptical about putting oil on my face, but when I used this literally my breakout was 50% better by the morning.  Its a miracle and I don't understand it but I love it.  I put this on after washing my face at night and use it as my night moisture product, as I do think it needs a long while to soak into your skin, but y'all it's SO worth it!

And that, my friends, is my January 2016 favorites!  I'm so excited for February, especially because we're having the most amazing spring weather in N.C. right now, here's hoping this keeps up until Summer, am I right?
