Top 3 Holiday Lip Products | Holiday 2016

Hello everyone, and welcome to another festive blog post!  Today was one of those days that I felt like it was properly winter, you know?  It was gray and cold outside, I had like five million coffees (I do this everyday but it felt wintery today...), and I went to this adorable coffee shop that was all Christmasy and it was all just very happy!  Also, at the coffee shop, fun story I didn't have wifi the whole time because I was too lazy to get up and go ask the workers for it.  WHAT is wrong with me, I ask all of you.  Anyways, on to better tales, aka the actual post!

I feel like every season, you've got to do a little update of your makeup edit, you know?  One of the updates I look forward to the most each year is probably the lips, because I think there's nothing more exciting than a red lip during the holidays.  Not exciting in like a brand new idea way, because everyone and their mother's aunt wears a red lip during the holiday, but exciting in a PSL latte (pumpkin spice latte, for you fools that didn't know the Starbucks slang) way, it just signifies the season.  My favorite red lip is hands down the Rimmel 107 one, it's a sort of berry red that is just so easy to wear, and also super affordable.  Also, just looked on the Target website, and I think they've changed the names of the Kate Moss lipsticks to actual names and not letters, so now my worlds all confusing.  Another red I love is the Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in Copenhagen.  This one is a bit darker, and obviously matte, but honestly the Nyx soft matte lip creams are so so wearable, and sort of a step down from a liquid lipstick, so don't be stressed about it being dry and tricky to wear!  And the last favorite holiday lip product of mine is the Laura Mercier Lip Glacé in Bare Pink.  I think with a more dramatic eye, a lip like this is the absolute perfect compliment, and the lip glacé formulas are honestly probably my favorite lip glosses ever.  That's a big statement coming from the girl who rocked glitter gloss from CVS all through middle school y'all!

I hope you all enjoyed this lil post, and I hope it inspires you to get out there and rock your most festive lipstick ASAP.  Have a most wonderful day friends, I'll talk to you all soon!

Christmas Wishlist | Holiday 2016

HEY everyone, it's been about a million years since I've written here I feel like, but I'm back on top of my life a little bit more now (I think...).  Finals are in a week, so things over here are getting a little hectic, but I'm taking deep breaths and drinking coffee and all that good stuff, so I'm hanging in there! Also, have listened to Grace Vanderwaal's new EP that came out today (!!!) non-stop all day long, and y'all I just think she is so amazing.  Another update from my life, I've decided to not watch the Gilmore Girls revival OR any youtube until exams are over... I'm struggling so hard but only 13 more days!  Pray for some willpower over here y'all.

I thought I'd share with y'all my little Christmas wish list to start out my December posts (I'm going to try to post everyday, which is crazy but I'm gonna do it y'all!!).  It's kind of a weird mix of things, from books to lipstick, to a flannel, but I mean, tis the season to want random things right?  I hope you all are having a super mega festive day, and if you aren't, go watch some vlogmas for me!! Have a wonderful day, and I will talk to you all very soon!

A Very Cozy Gift Guide | Holiday 2016

sweater // scarf // gloves // beanie // blanket // candles // palette

What an exciting exciting day... why? Because today is the day I'm starting my HOLIDAY posts.  I'm sorry, I'm just so flipping excited for the holidays y'all.  Like, no matter what's going on in your life, and to be quite honest this week has handed me a darn lot of curveballs (and it's only Tuesday soo), but no matter what the holidays just make me feel so so happy.  I know there are some people who don't quite like the holidays, which is ok of course, but it always makes me sad because I just want everyone to feel this happy about life right now!!

Anyways, now that we've established that I'm excited, here is a little cozy gift guide to start off the true holiday season, not that I haven't been celebrating since September, but you know what I mean! I hope you all enjoy this lil smush together (smush together? I don't know about myself honestly y'all) and I hope you all are having a wonderful week!  It's nearly Thanksgiving y'all, I cannot WAIT!!

How to Destress When You Don't Have Time

Hello hello and welcome to the happiest day, Friday!  I don't know about y'all, but for me assignments are piling up around me in a pretty alarming way, so although it's Friday I think this weekend is going to mainly consist of me studying around the clock, which may sound boring but I'm kind of a nerd sooo it's all good hehe.  But here's the thing, it can be kind of tough to look at a calendar chock full of assignments and presentations and tests and feel overwhelmed by the time it's going to take to even make a dent in the pile.  It's honestly so important to give yourself little breaks when you're working so so super hard, just to destress, be quiet, and just recenter yourself, so I have compiled some of my tested and proven methods to reset the crazy stress levels inside all our lil brains!!

Journaling

I honestly think journaling is such an amazing way to shut down your mind from whirring around with stress and to just get out whatever thoughts are clogging up your brain.  I know when you're crunched on time though, pulling out a journal and writing a whole page can be about the last thing you want to do, so that's where I love my one-line-a-day journal.  It's so easy because there's an interesting little prompt everyday, and you just have to write a sentence or maybe two if you're feeling all wordy and smart and stuff.

Reading Encouragement

Whatever encouragement looks like to you, be it from faith, someone close to you, or even your Pinterest quotes board, I find taking ten minutes out of working to just read some words that are meant to lift us up is so nice and refreshing.  I have been loving reading through Lysa Terkeurst's book "Uninvited," it's so amazing and just speaks right to me every single page.

Doodling

Finally, this is probably my favorite way to decompress for a few minutes.  I am an avid doodler, and have been my whole life, from the time I figured out how to hold a marker the right way.  I think there's nothing more freeing than just letting yourself go all over a page, even if it looks like absolute craziness.  It's also just a great contrast from sitting for endless hours doing structured schoolwork, doodling can be the most unstructured thing and I think it's super healthy as a study break.

And that's the list folks!  I would also suggest, when you're starting to feel low or irritable whilst studying, to grab a snack (something healthy obvi!!) because sometimes your brain just needs a lil more fuel, you know?  I hope you guys liked this and that it helps someone out there out who is feeling a little stressed like me, and I promise we will all make it through!  And PS the holidays are SO close and I'm so excited y'all!  Ok, that's all for me today, I will talk to you all very soon!

Review | Wet n Wild Highlighting Gold Bar

Hello everyone and happy Tuesday to you all!  It's almost Thanksgiving y'all... I seriously am so so excited like I can't even contain it, also I have about a million assignments coming up but I'm too distracted by Thanksgiving to be stressed you know?  Blessed.  Anyways, I have been trying out this highlight recently, and I like it a whole heap so I thought I'd share my thoughts and feelings on it with you all!

Ok so this is just a really pretty highlighter for everyday because it's not like over the top glowy, I think if you wanted that you could build it up though, but for everyday it's really nice and subtle.  I also love the color, something about a perfect light gold highlight just gets me every time you know? If you're sort of uncertain about highlights, or maybe have never tried one before, this would honestly be such a good starter, because A) it's super super cheap and B) it's beautiful.  Also, I as worried that as it is a cheaper highlighter, it would be all glittery and patchy like a lot of drugstore (and high end to be fair!) highlights can be, but honestly not the case with this one.  All in all my friends, this is worth the very little money you pay, and is just a fun starter if you want to start trying out highlighting!

I hope you all have a lovely rest of your Tuesday, and now I'm off to stay glued to my phone for election updates for the next few hours!  Talk to y'all soon!

Review | Colour Pop Up and Away Lip Trio

Hello everyone and happy Tuesday to you all!  I hope you're all having a wonderful last week of October, which is just so crazy I can't even deal with it.  A week or two ago, I bought the Up and Away ColourPop trio because A) I'd never tried ColourPop and I thought it was time I did and B) it was free shipping sooo I basically had to y'all.  Since it was my first ever time trying ColourPop I thought I would do a first impressions/review for y'all, in case anyone is interested in trying the brand but is a little unsure about it.

So this set has two ultra-matte lips, Love Bug and Mama, and one satin lip, Calypso.  Love Bug is a dark, rusty red/orange, and Mama is a more orangey red.  Calypso is a dark mauvey pink, but it's not too dark so it comes off pretty natural.  The two ultra matte's are SO matte y'all I wasn't prepared, they go on your lips and they are instantly super dry.  Definitely definitely make sure you're lips aren't dry when you put these on, because that would be like disaster in the first degree.  As for the color, I definitely found that they are much much darker than they look in the bottle, which isn't bad but it did surprise me for sure.  I still need to get used to the formula of these but overall, they seem to be pretty nice and definitely worth the $6.  As for the satin one, Calypso, I wear it most often for sure.  It's just a shade or two darker than my natural lips, and the formula is much less drying (although still matte) and comes off as much more wearable to me!

So all in all, I think I would suggest these, though I still definitely need to play around with the matte ones, but I definitely like the satin one and honestly for the price these are so fun to just add some variety to my normal lip product rotation.

Well y'all that was my review, really a first impression but whatevs, of the ColourPop trio, I hope y'all liked it!  Have an absolutely wonderful day and I will talk to you all very soon!

How to Handle a Bad Day (Or Week...)

Hello everyone!! So today I have a little bit of a different post but one that's just very applicable to my life right now, and I'm sure a lot of you can relate as well.  I have just been having a plain old awful week this week I'm not gonna lie y'all, from feeling overwhelmed and lonely and just plain unloveable, not to mention a parking citation and someone stealing all the CD's from my car (I hope they like Taylor Swift...), I just feel like the sooner this week is in the books, the better off my life will be.  But honestly, we all have to go through these times, if for nothing else, to help us learn how to handle tough times! And since I have an abundance of knowledge on the subject at the moment, I thought I would share my tips for surviving even the worst of days, parking tickets and all!

1 // Let it Happen

Y'all I'm probably the most hypocritical person to be writing this, as I've been known to stuff away emotions for a ridiculously long time, but I promise it always makes me feel better to just let my emotions happen.  This week I've just been feeling absolute crap about myself and my life in general, and I just found I have to let myself feel sad and all of that so that I can get it out of my system, if that makes sense at all!

2 // Get Away From it All

If it's at all possible, try to find a place where you can just be completely alone, or at least away from people you know.  Sometimes it just is such a nice refresh for me to go to a coffee shop off campus and just not have to feel like I have to put on this happy face, because especially at a small school it can feel like there's always someone I know around, which can be great, but also sometimes overwhelming.  I find it really amazing to get away, and read and pray and just be by myself doing something that makes me feel peaceful.

3 // Talk it Out

Nothing makes me feel happier than talking on the phone to my mom, sister, or best friend.  I always end up laughing about whatever went wrong in my day, and it just can flip a negative situation around in my mind!  Whoever it is that makes you feel totally comfortable and loved, just call them and have a nice conversation, even if you don't talk about what's bothering you, just hearing someone's voice who you know cares about you can do wonders!!

And that's my little spiel for today, I hope this helps some of you out there!! I also hope that if you too are having a bad day, week, or even month (Friends theme song anyone?) that it'll turn around soon.  I hope you all are doing wonderfully, and I'll talk to you all very soon!

Dorm Room Details

Helloooo everyone and happy almost Friday!  It's my fall break this weekend, so after class gets out for me at 3:50, I'm hopping in the car and heading home for a much needed break!  I thought before I left though, I'd show you guys my dorm room, as I realized I haven't actually shown any of it yet on the blog, that I can remember at least... Anyways haha, I thought I'd just show y'all a few pics before I bounce the academic bubble for a long weekend!

This is my lovely, plushy, warm, soft, amazing bed... Y'all can you tell I love my bed?  Like it's so so comfortable, and the Christmas lights make it so magical it's just so hard leaving each morning.  It's lofted, which you can't tell from this picture, so actually getting up into the bed is a process!! The comforter is PB Teen, and the fluffy white pillows are from target, as are both of the throw blankets and the gold pillow, and then the pink and orange pillows are from Anthropologie!

This is underneath my bed, where we have our little futon area.  It's not honestly that comfortable, but I thought I'd show y'all anyways just to complete the tour you know?  The middle pillow is the same one from Anthropologie, my roommate actually bought this one (#twins!!) and the fluffy ones I think are from TJ Maxx, but again my roommate bought them so I'm not too sure.

And then last but not least, this is my little desk.  Honestly y'all I'm sort of obsessed with how cute it turned out!!  I bought a Rifle Paper Co calendar and cut them and just taped them up, then just decorated it with mostly stuff from my desk at home, mixed with a target lamp and pencil cup and little pink and orange organizers!!

And that's my dorm y'all!! I honestly really love it and I feel so at home in it, but don't get me wrong I'm reallllly excited to be in my own bed tonight!  I hope y'all liked this post, and have a wonderful weekend wherever you are!!

September Favorites | 2016 | BØRNS, Ballet Flats, and Trader Joe's...

Ok y'all, I know I said I was going to get better about making regular posts and then I failed, but I'm going to stick to posting on Tuesdays and Thursdays now because I have a ton of time on those days (#college!!) so thanks for sticking with me y'all!!

September has been a month of just crazy change and also JOY for me.  My first full month of college has been a lot of growing up, and also a lot of learning about who I am and becoming more confident in that, which is probably cliché but it's so so real!  As far as favorites, I have a very wide array of them this month sooo, let's dive right on in!!

1 // Psalm 18:19

"He led me to a place of safety, for he delights in me."  I have been really struck by this message this month, especially because of the last part, for he delights in me.  Honestly, how beautiful is that message?  God doesn't just like us, or accept us, or put up with us, y'all he DELIGHTS in us.  Like, he loves us so much he would do anything for us, because he literally rejoices over us.  Y'all, when we wake up in the morning, he is overjoyed to just see us and be with us, and that is just so beautiful to me because 900% of the time I feel like I don't even like myself that much, much less that anyone else likes me, so when I read that God delights, delights, in me, it's just life changing to me!!

2 // Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer

I have used this stuff for about a year-ish now, and I just got a new tube (bottle? I feel like tube sounds weird lol) of it before school, and I was reminded all over again of how much I like it.  It honestly makes you look so so super awake and just with it you know?  Love x1000!

3 // BØRNS

I don't know if everyone listens to them and I'm just behind the trend, but y'all this band is so so good.  They sing "Electric Love," which I know was really big a few months ago, but the whole album (which is called Dopamine btw) is just super good, and it's the kind of music that just puts you in a cheerful mood, which is my favorite kind of jam!!

4 // Laura Mercier Radiance Primer

My dear mum gave this to me, and y'all it's honestly so SO good.  I'm honestly not a huge primer person, just because to me I've never used one where I necessarily saw any sort of difference in my makeup, but this one really makes for a noticeable difference.  I find that it just makes my makeup look so so flawless, even when I just use a BB cream overtop it, and I just love the glow it gives, because who doesn't love a glow nowadays right?

5 // Lace Up Ballet Flats

This is prolly my favorite shoe trend like ever, there's just something so feminine and fun about them you know?  I have a brown pair from Target, and then an olive pair from Old Navy, and my friends make fun of me because I usually alternate colors throughout the week and literally only wear my lace up flats.  I mean... the obsession is real y'all!!!

6 // Trader Joe's Skincare

Ok, I know this sounds weird but y'all trust me, if you haven't tried Trader Joe's lotion and shampoo and other bits, do it ASAP because 1/ it's cheap and 2 / it's just like so good.  My favorites are the Tea Tree Tingle shampoo (soo refreshing smelling and makes your hair feel so nice and fresh) and the Coconut Body Butter... ok y'all, this body butter smells SO freaking good.  If you like the smell of coconut literally drop what you're doing and go buy this because omigoodness it smells like heaven wow I'm just obsessed with it you guys.

And that my friends is my very random and rambly compilation of September faves!! I decided as a challenge to myself I'm going to start doing more makeup tutorials, so stay tuned for that friends!! Hope you all have a very lovely, cozy, autumnal day today!! Talk to y'all very soon!!

Friday Chitchat | #1 | Kylie Jenner, Grace Vanderwaal, and Pumpkins

Hey friends, happy FRIDAY!  I'm so beyond thankful it's finally Friday, it's been one long week, which you can probably tell from this old picture, but I thought it was pretty and I miss my desk at home so I thought I'd use it here hehe.  Anyways I wanted to start a new series of a sort of weekly roundups/just informal chat sessions, aka Friday Chitchats!  So welcome to the very first Friday Chitchat, this is a truly momentous occasion and honestly I'm just feeling very blessed to be a part of this (I've been in the library for four hours and I'm brain dead so if I sound delirious in this it's because I am!!!).

Honestly I feel like this week has just flown by, and I haven't even had time to stop and enjoy it you know?  Like September is almost gone... actually one of my friends got mad at me for saying that, because technically it's only halfway through, but I like to plan ahead you know?  Also, speaking of September, has anyone had a pumpkin spice latte yet?  I haven't but like, it's only a matter of days before I get one y'all.

Ok, let's talk news.  First of all Kylie Jenner's hair.  I'm sorry, don't hate me for bringing this up, but like... I feel like I need some outside opinion on this because honestly I just don't know how to feel about it and I want better for her I just don't know about it you know?

Second of all, I'm obsessed with Grace Vanderwaal and I know I'm not the only one.  Literally, every time I watch her audition video I get chills, like legit chills and I'm gonna be honest I tear up a little. She's just so precious and I feel like she is the future of America you know?

And lastly, and wildly unrelated to Pumpkin Spice Lattes, Kylie Jenner, or Grace Vanderwaal, but I have been praying a lot about peace and how to maintain that peace despite all of the craziness that is college and just life in general.  I don't have the perfect solution or formula that will instantly fill you with peace and joy, but y'all He does, and I promise you, even just sitting in silence with Him fills you with so much true pure JOY and it just makes the stress and pressure of the world fall away, and totally can recenter my soul, and even just quick prayers for peace and joy throughout my day have been changing my mood dramatically.

And that's my lil week rounded up for y'all.  I hope you guys liked this post, I know it's a lot different from what I usually do, but I thought it'd be fun and you know, you gotta keep life interesting am I right?  Anyway, I hope you all have a JOYOUS Friday and a restful weekend, I'll talk to you all very very soon!

My Everyday College Routine | 2016

Happy Wednesday everyone! I don't know about y'all, but I felt like this picture really applied to how I feel right now... I'm asking for a nap for Christmas and it's only September, but a girl can dream right?  I thought I'd write a post about my everyday college routine for y'all since I've started getting into more of a routine now that classes are fully underway! This is my routine for Mondays and Wednesdays as I have classes until 6 pm on those days and it's more of a structured routine!

6:45 (ish) Hopefully I'll wake up to my alarm when it goes off around this time, and I'll force myself out of bed and head straight to the gym to workout, which is always a struggle but ya gotta do it!
9:00 After gym and stretching and all that jazz, I'll either go to the Starbucks on campus for a coffee or I'll go back to my dorm for a nice breakfast, which I'll always eat while watching Gilmore Girls hehe.
10:00 Once breakfast is all done, I shower and get ready for my 11:30!
11:30 Classes start for the day! I have French, Humanities, a first year seminar, and Studio Art, and classes go till 6 today. Usually I'll eat lunch with some friends between French and Humanities too.
6:00 Once I'm finally off of classes, I'll go straight away to eat dinner with some friends or I'll do a nice chill dinner in my dorm if I'm feeling like some alone time.
7:00 I'm not going to sugarcoat this, I'm in the library every single night working, and so is almost everyone else here! So right after dinner I head to the library and usually stay there till 11 or 12, depending on my workload.
12:00 (ish) My goal every night is to be in bed by 12, so usually I just make that and am literally asleep within minutes.

And that's my long, tiring, but fun college day! I'm super lucky to have nice relaxing mornings, that obviously will change next semester, but for now I'm loving my schedule! Speaking of which, I've got to head to class, so I'll talk to you guys later!

What I Learned in My First Week of College

Hello and happy Saturday everyone!  I hope you all are doing super duper well, I for one am exhausted but surviving!  Yesterday was my official one week mark of college, and I meant to post this yesterday but I was in the library till quite late and then got back and literally just fell asleep, so there's that.  Anyway, I thought I would share some things I have learned in my first week, because I got quite anxious about college as I'm not into partying and I'm quite introverted and it always helped me to hear about people's real life stories about their experience, so here goes!

Do What Makes You Happy

This!!! Is!!! Important!!! I go to a small college, and already I've started to get anxious about getting left out of certain groups or not having friends because I don't want to get drunk every weekend, but I just have to tell myself over and over that the right people will (and have!) come as long as I keep doing what is important to me.

Get Sleep

I've had four days of classes, and already the workload is just super intense.  Maybe some colleges are less intense, but so far all my professors have been super clear that they expect a super high level of work, so me and all my friends have been working our butts off everyday, which is great, but also has been leaving us all pretty drained.  So whenever you get the chance, take a nap or just have a quite session of Gilmore Girls in your bed, just something to recharge.

Trust Yourself

This kinda goes with the first one, but seriously you are the one who is always gonna have your back, if that makes sense.  Basically, in college more than ever, you are on your own and you are in charge of your own happiness, so trust yourself!

Keep the End Goal in Mind

I know college can seem like a chance to just go crazy and have fun and forget all about school, and a lot of people can get caught up in that and forget why they're actually there.  To be fair, I haven't run into a particularly strong desire to go wild, as I'm basically a grandma at heart, but it has been important for me to remind myself that I'm at college to actually better myself as opposed to just taking a lot of cute instagram pictures (tell me someone else relates to that...).

Well y'all, a very tired Mel is signing off on this one, but I do hope this can be helpful to some of y'all and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!

August/Current Favorites | 2016

Hello everyone!  I hope you are all doing amazingly and have had a wonderful Labor Day!  I actually started classes today, as my school is just a bit weird but it's ok because at least I got all of August off. Anyways, I thought I'd do a little August/current favorites roundup even though it's super duper late, I just feel like these are always the best posts! (P.s. this pic is how I spent the evening after my first day of classes, can you tell I'm ready for fall?)

1 // Barefoot Blonde

Amber Fillerup Clark is just literally goals, you know?  Her family is just beautiful, and I just love her blog overall so much!

2 // Agatha Christie

Have I put Agatha Christie on my favorites before?  Probably, but I've been loving her even more this month, so I had to put it in!  There's just something so comforting about a good mystery you know?

3 // Christmas Lights

It's September, aka time for all things cozy, so obviously I set up some Christmas lights in my dorm as soon as I could and y'all it just made my room so heavenly!

4 // Gilmore Girls

Also another cozy, fall fave.  I don't know what it is about Gilmore Girls, but it's just so cozy and Autumnal to me, so I always turn it on around this time of year.

And those are all of my August/current random favorites, sorry this is a bit of a crap post but y'all I'm so tired after my classes!  Classes didn't start until 11:30 for me, but they went until 6:00 and I got up early to run and workout so not to complain, but y'all Mel is tired today.  So that's my story, I will talk to you kids later!

My Top Four Highlighters

Hello everyone and a very happy Monday to you all!  I move in to college in two days which is absolutely crazy, and I'm spending half my time packing like a madwoman, and the other half trying to figure out how summer is almost over.  All summer long though I've had an obsession with highlighters, and I feel like because of that I've figured out what works for me and what doesn't as far as highlighters go, so I thought I would share my absolute all time favorite highlighters with y'all!

I've talked about this palette for ever and ever (since Christmas lol), but this is the best everyday highlighter I've tried.  It's not glittery, which I hate in any kind of makeup, but it's just so glowy without being over the top.  It's also such a flattering color, it makes you look like a glowing goddess not even messing!  So if you are looking for an amazing highlighter that isn't super in your face, I would 10/10 recommend this one!

Both of the highlighters in this palette are absolutely stunningly gorgeous, and there's been so much hype around this product that I know I don't even have to explain it!  But if you want a really crazy glow highlight, definitely go for this palette, or any of Becca's highlighters really!

This Clinique eyeshadow shade, which is the lightest shade in their Teddy Bear quad and was also in their holiday set this year, is actually the most gorgeous highlight.  I know that's a bit weird to use an eyeshadow as a highlighter, but trust me, this is so so gorgeous.

This is my favorite cream highlighter because it's just so effortless looking and natural on, so I love it for just everyday with a bit of bb cream and mascara because it gives your face a pop without being too over the top!  Also, Arbonne is a really great brand that uses really wonderful ingredients, so if you haven't used them before give their website a look!

I hope this post got you all excited to get glowy, I know I always am!  I hope y'all have a great rest of your day and I will talk to you all very soon!

Back to School Survival Tips

Hello everyone and a very happy Friday to you all! Random thought, but I watched Zoe Sugg's vlog when she goes to the village she grew up in, and now I just really want to move to an English village, you know?  This also happens every single time I watch The Holiday, also Love Actually... maybe one day I'll live in a Jane Austen-esque village, but for now I'm going back to school in USA so I thought I'd share how I have survived school all these years!

1 // Write Down Everything

I know that there are people all over the place who swear by all digital everything, but for me I have to write stuff down or else I just lose track of it.  From notes to important dates to everything in between, I always write everything down, and this helps me stay on top of school and not forget everything I learn every single day!

2 // Don't Put Too Much Pressure on Yourself

Now don't get me wrong, it's important to push yourself to a healthy extent so that you can excel, but this can get out of hand and that's when you'll burn out super quickly.  It always helps me to put everything from grades to social life in perspective, and know that realistically none of it really makes me who I am.

3 // Ask for Help

This is super important and something that honestly I used to hate doing when I was younger. Whether it's a friend or your mom, or a professional tutor, if you're struggling with grasping a subject don't ever hesitate to ask someone to help you, even if it's just calling out terms to you.

4 // Be Serious About Time-Management

This was something I worked super hard at in high school, and it just helped my overall stress levels so much.  If you know how much time you have and how much time you are going to need to apply to different tasks, it can make school so much less overwhelming.

5 // Take Time for Yourself

I've said this before, but it is so so important to take some time each day for yourself when you do just what you want, and don't worry about school in the slightest.  For me, that may be having a nice breakfast where I sit down and read the paper, or having a nice bath, or drawing or reading for a while.  Whatever it is for you, just make sure you take plenty of time for you!

And that's how I survive any semester, no matter how grueling!  Y'all school is a blessing, but it can definitely be so so hard, so I hope this helps some of y'all!  Thank you guys for reading and I will talk to y'all very soon!

Product Review: Nyx Soft Matte Lip Creams

I know I've mentioned these quite a few times on the blog already, but I thought I would do a full on review as I have expanded my little collection of these lip creams!  The shades I have are (from left to right) London, Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Tokyo.  London is a very cool toned brown-nude, Stockholm is more of a pink toned nude, Copenhagen is a very dark plum-red, and Tokyo is a deep bright pink.  I love these lip creams so much because they go on so smoothly, and they kind of feel a bit mousse-like, so you don't have to worry about them being as messy as a more liquid lipstick.

These seriously are so long lasting, and for being a matte lipstick they aren't incredibly drying.  I mean, they are a bit just because that's their nature, but really not bad!  I reach these almost every single day and they are such a steal (I think they are about six dollars), you can't go wrong with buying one of these!

My Favorite Art Supplies

Hello everyone and happy Monday!  Um quick confession before I start this post, I started listening to Christmas music this week.  I did and I am not ashamed because it was raining and I was cozy and it was what I needed, and I got a lot of judgement but I just am who I am.  Also, if anyone else out there is already listening to Christmas music like I am, Arianna Grande's Christmas music is just art, it's pure art.

Anyways today I'm sharing with y'all a few of my favorite art products because with school coming up, I feel like it's nice to have a hobby that you can turn to to relieve a bit of stress, and for me that's drawing so I thought I would tell y'all what I use!  I start by drawing the outline of whatever I'm drawing (usually little people with cute clothes hehe) with a standard art pencil, like this one.  Then I will go over that in more detail with the prismacolor .005 pen, which is by far my favorite I've ever used!  Then to color the illustration I'll either use crayola colored pencils, which I know is basic but I'm not a fancy professional and they do the job, or I will use copic markers if I am feeling a little fancy!  And then sometimes to finish it off I will use a little Martha Stewart glitter with the Martha Stewart glitter glue just to add a little pizazz to the drawing!

And that's what I love to use whenever I draw!  I hope y'all have an amazing day, and I will talk to y'all very soon!

My Autumn Fashion Inspiration

Hello everyone and happy Saturday!  Today I made a lil roundup of a few pictures that are inspiring me for the coming autumn fashion season!  As you can see, I'm loving chunky-cozy knits, pretty necklaces, and all around casual cuteness (basically what fall is all about right?).  I hope this gets you all in the mood to start getting into the autumn swing of things, oh and by the way I've just set up a pinterest so click here to give it a look!  Have a wonderful day and I will speak to y'all very soon!

My Favorite Fall Beauty Trends

Hello friends!!  My life recently has been a scramble of getting ready for college and trying not to stress out too much about it, but in the midst of that I have been getting so so excited for fall (as I have said a million times plz don't judge me).  So today I thought I'd do a lil roundup of some fall-ish beauty trends that I either rely on every year, or am excited to try out this year!

1 // Dark Plum Lips

This is an old favorite of mine because there's just something about dark plum lipstick that makes me feel so fall and also dramatic which everyone loves right?  My favorite plum lipsticks are Maybelline's Plum Perfect and Nyx's Soft Matte in Copenhagen.

2 // Matte-Smoky Brown Eyes

I think this is the most gorgeous look for everyday in the fall.  Really you just need one matte brown shade that you can smoke out on your eye, and your ready to go for class or anything!  For this look I will probably use the Too Face Natural Eyes palette as they have super gorgeous matte brown shades!

3 // Nineties-ish Brown Lips

Honestly I love everything about the 90s from the TV to the (sometimes questionable) fashion, to the makeup trends that are coming back in!  My favorite one is the brown lipstick trend, which has been huge this summer, and I think will look so gorgeous in fall and on into winter as well!  For this I love Nyx's Soft Matte in London, but I'm also dying to try their Lip Lingerie in Sandstorm!

4 // Red Lips + Gold Eyes

This is my favorite look every year without fail, there's something so amazingly festive about the combination of a beautiful red lip with a sparkly gold eye.  My go-to's are Rimmel Kate Moss lipstick in 107 with the Benefit World Famous Neutrals palette, using the shade Gilt-y Pleasure (the most amazing gold eyeshadow ever!).

Although summer beauty is amazing, there's something so much more dramatic and exciting about fall makeup that I'm so excited to start wearing again.  I hope y'all enjoyed this post and I'll talk to y'all very soon!

Autumn Style Staples

I feel like fall may be one of my favorite seasons for many reasons, but mainly for the clothes.  I mean don't get me wrong, shorts and bikinis are great, but there's such relief in just putting on your favorite jeans and snuggliest sweater and just living your life in actual comfort you know?  As I'm going to college in about three weeks, I have been doing some updating to my wardrobe, and in the process I have found a few key contenders that I think will be in constant rotation this fall for me!

1 // The Lace Up Ballet Flat

These have been around on all of the cool fashion it girls for a while now, and I finally decided to try a pair and ya'll... these are literally so flattering and they add so much to every outfit I've put them with so far.  These are from Target, but I also got a pair from Old Navy in the olive color that I love as well!

2 // The Floaty White Blouse

There's honestly nothing like a pretty white shirt, it goes with any outfit and immediately makes you look pulled together.  This one is so gorgeous, I found it at Target but I couldn't find it online to link, so if you can find it at your Target it's your lucky day!

3 // The Mom Jean

Ok, hear me out, if you have your doubts about the mom jean trend, trust me I've been in your shoes!  But then I found these Madewell mom jeans in our J.Crew warehouse store, and I thought I would try them out, thinking I would absolutely hate them.  But y'all, they are seriously so flattering and also so so comfortable, I cannot wait to wear these all the time in the fall (tbh I wear them all the time now too hehe...).

4 // The Gold Hoop

I've talked about how much I wear these gold hoops now, but I honestly think they're going to look so cute in the fall with sweaters and boots!  I love how casual these are, but they're still so fun.  I don't know where these are from, but any gold hoops will do honestly!

With literally everyone writing fall posts, and stores putting out Halloween stuff (a little overkill, but I'm going with it) I'm just so excited for cooler days... but still sad about saying goodbye to summer. It's just a stressful time, but getting able to drink warm chai tea's again without melting will make it easier!

My top 4 style icons

Hellooo everyone and happy Wednesday!  I thought I'd write a little bit about the 4 people whose style inspires me the most to put down the sweatpants and pick up something a little more high fashion (aka jeans probably, but it's a little upgrade right?).  I chose people who I genuinely love every outfit they put on, so it actually did take me a while to pick these out, so I hope y'all enjoy!

1 // Blair Eadie (Atlantic-Pacific)

I have been following Atlantic-Pacific since literally Middle School, and every single post has made me want to go out and buy everything to recreate the look.  I love how she takes fun pieces and makes something completely unexpected, and something that always somehow looks timeless!

2 // Audrey Hepburn

Speaking of timeless, it can't get much more timeless than Audrey Hepburn.  To me, her style is everything I aim for.  I love her timeless pieces and how she always looks polished and still a little bit whimsical at the same time.  Also, her ballet flats give me life, you know?

3 // Rachel Green

Ok, I know Rachel Green obviously isn't real, but that doesn't mean I can't be obsessed with her style right?  Honestly, just about everything Rachel wears (especially in the first few seasons) is just amazing.  As the 90s are making a booming comeback, I think Rachel's style is my guideline to pulling off all things from the greatest decade (I was born in the 90s so I can call it that right?).

4 // Karlie Kloss

All models off duty provide some A+ style inspiration, but Karlie is one of my style icons because of the way she always looks polished and elegant.  Maybe it's because she's basically a human gazelle, but everything she wears looks so chic that it makes me immediately want to see if I can pull it off.  Whether I actually can is a whole other question, but the bottom line is I just want to be Karlie Kloss (don't we all?).

I hope y'all enjoyed this post, and maybe got some style inspiration out of it for yourselves!  Have a wonderful rest of you day, and I will talk to y'all very soon!

My School Bag Essentials

Hello everyone!  I hope you all are having a wonderful Monday wherever you are, I know I am!  As it's the second week of August already, I figured it was about time to start rolling out the old back-to-school posts.  As hard as it is to leave summer behind, back-to-school is honestly such an exciting time.  Mainly because of shopping, not so much the actual going back to school, but I mean shopping is shopping right?

So today as my first back-to-school post I thought I'd write about the essentials for survival that you need in your school bag, because I mean school can be a real battle for survival am I right?

1 // Gum

This made the cut for two reasons, 1) I'm addicted to gum and honestly who isn't and 2) because when you have gum everyone knows you get about a million people asking you for some which means you get a million opportunities to make new friends! Yay for new friends!!!

2 // Lip Balm

So essential because if we're all honest here, sometimes a Kylie lip kit can leave your lips feeling like they're going to die of dehydration by 12 pm.

3 // Phone Charger

My phone went through this phase in Junior year where by the time I got to my 1 pm free period, it would be dead, so ever since then I always keep a charger in my backpack in case my phone goes through another stressful phase.

4 // Planner

I mean, this isn't absolutely essential, but to me it is because if I don't write down test dates and stuff like that right away, then it's stressville for me.

5 // Kind Bars, etc.

Basically any kind of semi healthy snack, especially if you have back to back classes all day, eating something will prevent any sort of energy slump and help your lil brain get back into gear!

I feel like this is a pretty basic list of essentials, but I mean without these things in a long school day could cause some sort of meltdown for me so I feel like they're pretty important... Anyways, I hope y'all have a great rest of your day and I'll talk to you very soon!

July Favorites | 2016

Currently crying inside a little bit because July is already over... how can this be?  At least that means fall is coming soon though, not to be basic but my heart really does beat a little faster for a pumpkin spice latte (I'm sorry ok?).  Anyways, here are my favorite things from this July!

1 // Target Button Through Skirt

I've been seeing button through skirts around for a while now, and I absolutely loove this one from Target!  It goes with absolutely everything and I have loved throwing this on all month!

2 // Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer

This is a highlighter/concealer, and it is such a gorgeous product.  I have used this legit every single day this month, and I love love love the finish this gives my face!

3 // Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

I have gone through I lot of love/hate with this mascara, but right now I'm loving it!  It does an amazing job of separating the lashes and curling them up, although the only downside I would say is that the applicator is a little bit rough on my eyes for whatever reason!

4 // Elf Contour Kit

I think I've talked about this a bunch on here already, but the contour shade in this palette is just so good!  I also love the bronzer in it too, mainly because it's matte and also it's a nice warm tone that I just find so flattering!

5 // Kate Spade Crossbody Purse

This was given to me as a very kind gift, and I couldn't find it online, but it's such a lovely purse and also it's in one of my favorite colors!  I'm now on the market to find a cute pouf to put on it, or something trendy like that...

6 // Clinique Blended Face Powder

I've had this for forever, but recently I've really liked applying it with my beauty blender, for whatever reason I feel like it just sets my under-eyes so much better than doing it with a brush!

And those are my favorites for this month!  Although I'm sad this is my last month of summer, I've gotta be honest I am SO excited for fall... I know I'm weird y'all!

My Favorite Instagram Accounts

Hello everyone and happy almost Friday!  I don't know why, but this week has been so crazy for me, I'm going to be so happy for a nice relaxing weekend for sure.  Also, I've been having this problem this week where I legitimately just never know what day it is.  Very concerning honestly...

Anyways, I thought today I would share with y'all my absolute favorite instagram accounts to follow, because I know I'm not the only one who loves finding people who are much cooler than me to follow on instagram, so here's some inspiration for all you instagram-obsessed out there!

@inslee // Inslee Farris has the most gorgeous fashion illustration account, plus she's hilarious, sooo double win!

@earthyandy // If you need some inspiration to eat at least a little healthy (aka eat one piece of broccoli a week...) then honestly, this is the best instagram out there!  Also, her family is gorgeous and they live in Hawaii, and did I mention they're just precious?

@amberfillerup // Ok, this is honestly just the most perfect instagram out there.  Like seriously, there are no words, y'all just gotta go follow ASAP!

@marykaterob // Even if you're not a fan of Duck Dynasty, MaryKate's instagram is just so cute, and she posts the most amazing inspiring messages that just brighten my day!

@zoella // Y'all already know how much I love Zoella, but her instagram is honestly one of the best!  It's so cheerful and colorful, plus around fall/Christmas she has the most festive posts, and I already can't wait for September for her to start getting festive again!

What I'm Reading | July 2016

Hello everyone!  I hope you all had a great weekend and are enjoying the end of this July Monday! Today I thought I would do something a little different, but as I've been reading a lot of good books this month I thought I would do a little monthly roundup of what I've been reading!

Something Blue // Emily Giffin This book was basically a rom-com in book form, but it wasn't too bad if you're looking for an easy, thoughtless beach read.  I had sort of a hard time getting into it because in the first section the main character, Darcy, is super unlikable, but she get's better and so does the story, so all in all it was a fun one!

Emma // Alexander McCall Smith I honestly love the premise of updating an old book and making it applicable to present-day, and I just found the writing so breezy and fun to read.  I also love the characters, they're all accurate to the original book, but also have funny little updates to make them modern.  If you're looking for another quick summer book, definitely look into this one!

Funny Girl // Nick Hornby I haven't honestly finished this one yet, but I'm about halfway through and let me just say I'm in love with this book.  It's basically about the starlet of a 1960s sitcom, and everything about is so great.  It's funny, but not entirely a mindless read.  Would absolutely recommend this book!

The Girl on the Train // Paula Hawkins I had heard a lot about this book, so I thought I would see if I liked it.  I was a little nervous because I heard that this was just insanely creepy and twisted, but I literally could not put it down y'all!  I finished it in under 24 hours I'm pretty sure... Fair warning, it is super super creepy in the end, but honestly I couldn't love this book more.  If you're into thrillers, this honestly is one of the best ones I've read!

I have actually been doing a lot of reading this month, as I've had a lot more free time.  I still have another month of off school, so hopefully I'll get a lot more reading done in August!

Beach Day Essentials

Hello everyone and a very happy Monday to you guys!  As it is the middle of summer, I figured it's prime time to do a little round up of stuff I have to take with me for a day at the beach, or more often in my case, the pool!  Honestly, not having the proper supplies can be catastrophic to your beach day, and I find that these things + snacks ensure that you'll have a perfect day of beaching!

Books / Magazines - This is a given, I'm one of those people who can only sit there and listen to music for so long, so I have to bring something to read/look at as well!  Here I have an Instyle, which is by far my favorite magazine, and Mindy Kaling's amazing book "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?" which is the perfect beach read!

Lip Balm - Because, I don't know about y'all, but salt water + wind makes my lips nightmarish, so I find bringing a long a little bit of lip balm, like this by Smith's, is an absolute must.

BB Cream with SPF - I am honestly so bad with sunscreen, but I find my saving grace is wearing some sort of base makeup that has SPF.  I chose this BB cream by Maybelline because it's super light coverage and easy to apply, so it's perfect to bring in your beach bag in case you need to reapply some midway through the day!

Headphones - Sometimes the mood just hits me to just lay out and listen to some music, so that makes headphones an obvious necessity for a beach day.  These are just the Apple ones, because I've never really strayed from these, although there probably are some better ones out there, I'm just too lazy to look (lol)!

I hope y'all enjoyed this post, and I hope you all have tons of exciting beach days planned before we all have to go back to reality in the fall!

Current Stationary Obsessions

Hello everybody, I hope you're all having an amazing Sunday so far!  I just thought I would do a quick little blurb about a few of the stationary bits that I have been loving lately.  You all already know about my ban.do planner, but while I was in Charleston, my mom very kindly picked up the big to do list, the small pink to do list, and the small "killin it" pad (obsessed!), and they have all been brightening my life recently, and also I can't wait to bring them to college with me in the fall!  Also, I think I've already mentioned this pink legal pad, and I've probably already said how it makes me feel like Elle Woods, but I mean seriously it's one of my favorite things ever ever ever.

Also y'all, totally unrelated, but I went to Barnes and Noble and picked up "Funny Girl" by Nick Hornby and "The Girl on the Train" by Paula Hawkins, so I was thinking maybe after I finished them I may do a review of them here, and maybe start doing some more book posts, as I've been really back into reading a lot lately!

Anyways, I hope y'all enjoyed this post and I will talk to y'all very soon!
